Both a semi-private golf club and a private residential community, the Fyre Lake dream started to become reality back in 1969 when area farmer, Glen Tomlinson, reached out to developer Kenneth Hansen to turn his farmland into a lake and housing development. When Ken's wife, Nancy, saw a picture of the lake on paper, she thought that it looked like a big fire and in keeping with the Hansen's Norwegian heritage, it was decided to use the Norwegian spelling of "fire", which is "f-y-r-e". Therefore, the main lake and the entire development became Fyre Lake. The Norwegian theme carried through the additions and streets as well with names like Fjord View and Valhalla Court. The two smaller lakes were named for the Hansen children, Karl and Renee. In 2007, development of the golf course was underway in conjunction with Nicklaus Design to become Fyre Lake National.
